Cambridge Community and History

Cambridge homes for sale are located in some of the areas most historic neighbourhoods—Galt, Preston, and Hespeler Village—which were once their own municipalities. In 1973, these three municipalities joined together to form the city of Cambridge.

The neighbourhood, Galt, is famously known for its resemblance to small, European villages. It maintains its European roots through its architecture that dates back to the 1830s. This is seen in the many charming tudor buildings found throughout the neighbourhood, like the Black Badger Pub.

The city of Cambridge has put in great effort to preserve its European heritage. When the Cambridge Weekend Farmer’s Market (one of Canada’s oldest markets from the 1830s) burned down, it was rebuilt in 1984 as a heritage structure. Residents of Cambridge continue to visit the Weekend Farmers’ Market to buy local foods and goods.
